In the late 1980`s, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining pro wrestler. But twenty years on he just scrapes a living performing too handfuls of diehard wrestling fans in high school gyms and centers around New Jersey. Estranged from his daughter Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any proper relationships. Randy survives on the excitement of the show and the admiration of his fans until a heart attack forces him into retirement. Following on Randy has to take stock of his life and what is truly lacking.
